We first learned this when we found this one-of-a-kind copy of Catch-22. In it, Heller included a note to a colleague, referencing a presentation he had written for her during his time at McCall’s magazine. Books have more stories to tell than the ones in their pages, and we’re here to bring those stories to life.

Hughes Rare Books is owned and operated by Greg and Amy, two career research scientists with a passion for antique aesthetics and storytelling. In our bookstore, we combine our research rigor with our love of old books to provide complete and comprehensive listings. 

As you browse our store, you’ll find we don’t use the standard condition grading scale of fine, near fine, very good, good, fair, and poor. This scale is open to interpretation and doesn’t pass scientific muster. Instead, we carefully document each book’s condition and provide ample pictures, letting each buyer make their own informed decision.

We operate out of the Hartford area in Connecticut, USA. We are members of the Independent Online Booksellers Association (IOBA) and adhere to their strict ethical standards.
